Buttercream Frosting

2/3 cup milk
4 egg yolks
2/3 cup sugar
2 sticks (1 cup) butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

In medium saucepan, bring milk to a boil.

Meanwhile, beat egg yolks and sugar in medium bowl. Add a little hot milk to egg mixture to temper the eggs, then gradually add remaining milk. Return mixture to saucepan over medium-high heat, and cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. When thickened, strain mixture into a large bowl; allow to cool.

Cream butter until fluffy, then gradually add cooled milk mixture, and stir until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
